Maria Robertson will be on annual leave on Wednesday 18th October. 

Jennifer Adams will cover the morning for the usual hours of 9.30am - 1pm. The Library and coffee shop will be open during these hours only.

A membership benefit afforded to our members is a reciprocal agreement with the SSC Library in Edinburgh and the RFPG in Glasgow for when you are working away.  We've put together a leaflet detailing all our available services which is available here

Society members are entitled to Corporate membership of a gym.  Corporate Rate membership is currently £30.99 per month, opening times:

0545 - 2200 hours Monday to Thursday
0600 - 2130 hours Friday
0800 - 1800 hours Saturday
0900 - 2000 hours Sunday 

You also receive a Consultation with an Instructor, a Fitness Test and a Programme with will designed for individuals to follow whilst at the Club which is reviewed every 6 weeks and you would receive 10% discount on Physiotherapy and Sports Massage.  Any further information can be found on our Website http://www.banksodee.co.uk/.

Students at North East Scotland College have made a short film called Stories Never Die, some of the filming was done in our library and we get a mention in the credits accordingly.  Watch it here.

Williamson Law Prize winners

A photo of the students who received a Williamson Law Prize with our President, Brian Healy and the head of the Law School, Anne-Michelle Slater.  1st prize went to Deborah Milne, joint 2nd prizes went to Callum Rae, Qi Rui Chen and Scott Wood.  The standard of dissertations were very high this year.  Our thanks go to Anne-Michelle Slater and Margaret Ross at Aberdeen University, and to our past President Liz Mackinnon for finally getting this prize reinstated after its lapse of several years.

We have now had a few events for the TANA group we announced last year.  This group is for, our members who are, Trainee And New Advocates to network with their peers.  We are also keen to set up an Experienced Consultant Scheme for them.  If you are experienced and would have some time to spare please let us know as obviously we can only run this mentoring if we get appropriate volunteers.  It can be arranged to suit yourself, although the idea of periodic meetings over coffee and cakes in the library was discussed.  If you are not available we would at least hope you would be supportive of the attendance of these events by any of your colleagues who are part of the TANA group.

The Society has cancelled its subscription to DX as it could no longer justify the expense for the amount it was used.  Please stop using DX address with immediate effect.  Details of BACS payments have been added to the website to allow for electronic booking of events or for any other necessary payments.

   

3rd September 2008

 

The amended Byelaws text approved at the SGM preceding last year's AGM had its second round of approval at last night's SGM.  Final text is available on the Membership section of the website.  Photos of the Website Launch are on the Events page at the bottom.

Please note that if you have spare time at court, and want to submit your Legal Aid applications electronically, our library has wireless broadband internet access. There is also an internet enabled computer available for use if you do not carry your own technology. Obviously this will be of more interest to criminal practitioners.

 

12th March 2008

 

It has come to our attention that some members of the public have been allowed access and egress to the courts, through our main door onto Concert Court. The Management Committee have been in communication with the Sheriff Clerk and both sides are in agreement that this is not acceptable use of our door. It should only be used by non members in the event of a fire.

The court staff and Reliance staff will be reminded of this.

It could cause severe problems to the Society if this is not adhered to, so I hope we have your full co-operation.

Just thought I would remind you that as well as a lovely quiet library to work in, complete with internet access, we have a coffee room, complete with biscuits. Good for escaping court, or just the office and that eternally ringing phone!

We will shortly be announcing some exciting social and CPD events so if you have not asked to be added to the relevant mailing list, now would be a good time. We have one for all members which you are automatically on, then there are the optional ones for:

CPD training opportunities
Social Events
Defence agents / court practitioners
Trainees

Let me know if there is anything you would like the Society to do for you, or any social or training events you would like to see on offer. We’re always open to suggestions and do what we can to please!
