Subscription Information

The Society funds its general membership services (as distinct from activities which are charged for to those who participate) partly from annual subscriptions from members and partly from income from other sources. Historically, the costs of maintaining the Society’s uniquely fine Hall and Library building were a considerable burden, resulting in relatively high annual subscriptions. Now however the ground floor of the building is leased on a long term basis to the Scottish Court Service for use as a court room and ancillary accommodation, and the resultant income has enabled the Society to effect significant reductions on pre-existing subscription rates, particularly for younger lawyers. The trainee solicitor rate is currently only £10 a year, solicitors within their first five years after qualifying pay just £35 a year, and the full rate is just £125.
